Year 4 Summer 2010

English

This term we will be covering a range of different texts, including Play script writing, stories, recounts, and persuasive writing.  The children will be reading many examples of these texts before writing their own.

 

Guided Reading will happen every day.

 

Children should also continue to read daily at home to make sure they make good progress.

 

Homework will be set on Friday and will be due in the following Tuesday.

 

Maths

 This term we will be covering all the different aspects of maths, from addition to angles and direction.

We will also be focusing on our mental maths skills and Improving our recall of addition, subtraction and multiplication facts.

ICT

This term, we will be using branching databases as a way of organising information.  This will be linked to our Science work on animals.

We will also be learning how to present information that we have collected using graphs and charts

Geography

We will be studying an issue concerning Geography in our topic ‘What’s in the News?’

It would be beneficial for your child to watch news programmes such as “News Round” or “Blue Peter”.

History

This term, we will be looking at life in Victorian Britain.  We will learn about what life was like for children in Victorian Britain.
We are planning a visit to Hitchin Victorian museum to take part in a Victorian school room.

RE

This term, we will be learning about how food is an important part of worship within Christianity and Sikhism.

PE

In PE we will be developing our skills in athletics before moving onto net and wall skills. In addition there will be six sessions of swimming.

Design and Tecnology

The children will be designing, making and then evaluating money containers.  The children will be working with fabrics and using sewing to make these containers.

Science

The children will be learning about how our bodies move and grow.

We will also be looking at animals and their habitats.

Music

We will continue to use the Music Express scheme and we shall be singing as well as composing music.

Art

Our theme for Art this term is “Picture this”. We will be looking at the different ways we can look at and represent images.

French

 

Other

We will be following the SEAL programme(Social Emotional Aspects of Learning)
In Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship education (or PHSCE for short!), the children will be learning about communication and what effective speaking and listening is.
