English

The children will continue to follow the Primary Framework.
During their daily literacy hour the children will be speaking, listening, and writing. This term our main areas of study will be

  • Phonics and spelling
  • Word recognition
  • Sentence construction
  • Punctuation, especially capital letters and full stops
  • Reading comprehension
  • Writing composition
  • Handwriting
During the school day the children will be able to read a wide range of books. They will also bring home a book to share with you. It would be very helpful if you could read with your child for 10 minutes per day, recording pages read and any comments that you may wish to make.

 

Maths

During our Numeracy lessons this term, the children will study

  • Counting, properties of numbers and number sequences
  • Place value and ordering
  • Understanding addition, subtraction, division and multiplication
  • Mental calculation strategies
  • Money, real life problems and making decisions
  • Measures
  • Shape and space
  • Data handling

 

ICT

During our ICT lessons, the children will be learning to understand how to use a keyboard to write written text and to explore an art programme to create pictures.

 

Geography

Our geography topic is HOW CAN WE MAKE OUR LOCAL AREA SAFER?  Children will be carrying out simple surveys and research.

 

History

This term the children will be learning about FAMOUS PEOPLE from the 20th century and REMEMBRANCE DAY.

RE

There are two main themes this term both involving learning about the Christian faith. SIGNS AND SYMBOLS and CHRISTMAS.

PE

The children will take part in dance and gymnastic lessons where they will explore movement and actions

Design and Tecnology

Our design and Technology work will be FOOD. Children will be designing, preparing and evaluating food that they make.

Science

This term the children will study two units in Science. Our first unit is  CHANGING MATERIALS. This is an area of study where the children will investigate different materials. Our second unit is called HEALTH AND GROWTH where the children will learn about how themselves and others grow.  

Music

Our music lessons will be linked to our topic work and the children will sing and use percussion instruments.

Art

Our art work will be fabric and paper weaving.
