English The children will continue to follow the National Literacy Strategy. During their daily literacy hour the children will be speaking, listening, reading and writing. This term our main areas of study will be
During the school day the children will be able to read a wide range of books, and will also bring home a book to share with you. Please read and listen to your child read for about 15 minutes a day, writing comments in the contact book. Your support really does push the children’s reading skills forward. |

Maths During our Numeracy sessions this term the children will study

ICT During our ICT sessions the children will work in the computer suite following two programs of study

Geography This term the children will be ‘Investigating our local area’. This will involve a trip to the local village of Essendon. The children will investigate and compare Essendon and Welwyn Garden City. They will focus on the different types of buildings and how the areas have grown. |

International Festival During the final weeks of term the whole school will have an international festival. Year 1 will be studying Kenya in Africa. |

RE There is one main theme this term about SPECIAL BOOKS

PE The children will take part in “games” this term. They will learn to play simple games. This term will also include the infant sports day where the children will display their athletic skills.

Design and Tecnology During food technology we will be inviting all to ‘Eat more fruit and vegetables’ Our textiles topic will be designing and making bags.

Science This term the children will study two units in Science. The first unit will be PUSHES AND PULLSl. The children will learn about these two different forces. The second is called GROWING PLANTS. This is an area of study where the children will learn about different plants and the conditions needed for them to grow. |

Music Our music sessions will encourage the children to sing, compose and repeat simple tunes and patterns, listen to music and perform. |

Art Sculpture is the theme this term. The children will explore 3D shape using colour, texture and form. A lot of our art will focus on the work of Andy Goldsworthy, an English sculptor.
